Met up with the lovely Dutch couple again yesterday for Dim Sum. They kindly offered us Dutch food (well, gourmet not traditional) and so we thought we'd return the favour by taking them out to an "authentic" Dim Sum experience. We were going to go to Joy Garden but it was packed.. even at 11am!!! We had to wait for an hour to get a table so we went to erm... Northbridge Seafood Restaurant (on Roe St). That still took us about half an hour. But it was good, coz we were hungry by then hehe While we waited, we chatted about their Dim Sum experience in Holland. It seems like it was pretty authentic too! But not as many "asians" of course haha And noisy. And we saw egg tarts and she said, that looks like something from Portugal and I went yes!! It did originate from Portugal.. er.. Dunno what the name is. But anyway, it's like.. the egg tart except it doesn't have the pastry around the egg custard bit and it's got caramelised sugar on top of the egg custard. A very very rich dessert but DELICIOUS!!! We had it when we were in Lisbon and boy, you can stuff down like 3 in a few minutes. But of course, like all desserts, very fattening =)
Oh oh We saw KW & Jas with their friends. Hehe Just waved hi and bye.
So after salivating, we finally seated and we ordered heaps. Oppa was a bit hungry haha But the atmosphere also made us eat VERY very fast and we were stuffed rather quickly. We also had mango pudding and Da Fu Wha (??). They were very amused by it and we were relieved that they enjoyed it =) During our lunch we were talking about a country called Surinma (Info on Surinma) in South America. They have such an interesting history. And apparently, the Dutch swapped New York City for Surinma with the English because Surinma had good sugar cane plantation or something.. now it's Coke.. j/k j/k. And apparently 98% of the country is covered by forest! Amazing! Oppa and I had never heard of them.. I went home and told my parents and they knew it!! Apparently they used to deal with the biggest department store there! Woah, my parents did business with so many different countries!!!!
Anyway, so it was a very nice outing with them! Learn so much from them in terms of Dutch history and culture as well as travel tips =) They love camping too.. and erm.. they're convincing me to go haha After that, went to Subiaco Markets with Oppa. Had French crepe at the French patisserie.. mmm mm Not cheap though but it sure was delicious (and fattening)
I can't believe it's approaching end of winter =( It felt like such a short winter!!! Boo hoo.. and I have my exams in 1 week's time.. argh! Was planning to study but didn't end up doing it coz was busy socialising haha Gotta start tonight.. gotta!!
Oh.. Elaine.. Oppa is Korean. Terms of endearment for sure. It means "older brother" but it is commonly used by the Korean girls to call their boyfriends =)
