So tonight is the end of the initiation into MBA, which also marks the official start of 2 years of hard work.... *sigh* I am half looking forward to it but also half not. There are already assignments due in less than 3 weeks and we haven't even done much in class!!! ARGH! And man, it takes a lot of will power to go to class and stay awake after a day's of hard work. In my new role, I have no time to break and do readings (if I wanted to). Especially when the boss is around. But I guess I have to be also thankful that I don't have over-time *phew* Anyway, yesterday was accounting which was interesting but definitely not looking forward to it because my last memory of accounting unit (first year uni) hasn't been a pleasant one!! And tonight, organisational behaviour (Judy's expertise so guess who I'll be sucking up to hahaha). Remember the pig question I mentioned earlier? Well, it's from th same lecturer. Tonight, there was another exercise, the Crocodile River. I think most of us would've heard of this some time through uni. I thought I'd share with you...It would be very interesting to see what different people's ideas are. What values they treasure most, what values they despise. There are no right or wrong answers.
The Crocodile River Story
There lived a woman named Abigail who was in ove with a man namd Gregory. Gregory lived on the shore of a river. Abigail lived on the opposite shore of the same river. The river that separated the two lovers was teeming with dangerous crocodiles. Abigail wanted to cross the river to be with Gregory. Unfortunately, a heavy flood had washed out the bridge the previous week. So she asked Sinbad, a riverboat captain, to take her across. He said h would be glad to if she would consent to go to bed with him prior to the voyage. She promptly refused and went to a friend named Ivan to explain her plight. Ivan did not want to get involved at all in th situation. Abigail felt her only alternative was to accept Sinbad's terms. Sinbad fufilled his promise to Abigail and delivered her into he arms of Gregory.
When Abigail told Gregory about her amorous escapade in order to cross the river, Gregory cast her aside with disdain. Heartsick and rejected, Abigail turned to Slug with her tale of woe. Slug, feeling compassionate for Abigail, sought out Gregory and beat him brutally. Abigail was overjoyed at the sight of Gregory getting his due. As the sun set on the horizon, people heard Abigail laughing at Gregory.
Now, rank the people in the story 1 - 5. 1 being the person you LEAST want to work with and 5 being the person you MOST want to work with.
After doing the ranking, list th 3 personal values you felt were important in how you rankd the characters in the story.
Yeah so that was the first night of OB. Looking forward to the rest of the unit. But assignments.. argghhhhhhhhh
